February 9th 2010

We'll have to skip 02/08, the ladies enthusiasm towards getting back to work was no match for Priscila's airbrush! It wasn't working.
Onto February 9th then, the day our champions painted the model's base with a (get this!) functional airbrush, adding all the detailed shading along the way, there's still a lot to come!

Part two of February 4th 2010
The electricity went out and our champions had to finish working on the model by candlelight! The Styrofoam is completely covered, though!

And here's our after hours of work!

I'm Blythe! Nice to meet you!
As the title already says, the ladies are adding Blythes to Tim Burton's wonderland, in a very sweet way! It's all Sugar Art!
For now, let's talk about Blythes a little bit.
The first Blythes we're created by an American designer called Allison Katzman, in the early 70s, but they didn't really pick up and we're only around for a year. In the late 90s, however, producer Gina Garan used a Blythe she had received as a gift as to test her photographic abilities. After many very cool shots we're taken, she joined forced with Junko Wong and they released the book "This is Blythe"

Blythes remained a collector's item until the year 2000 when they we're chosen to model a Japanese campaign for a department store, which shot them into success. In 2001 the Neo Blythes we're born and they are pretty snazzy!

They even modeled for Alexander Mcqueen's Target collection in 2009!
Since then there has been a lot more Blythe related coolness, be sure to checkout the website.

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland was and is the inspiration behind this project.
Both the books (which I highly recommend) and the movies (I've watched them both and they are also insanely recommended, by yours truly) question reality and all the silly paradigms that come along with it. (Paradigms? Hmmm someone is feeling wordy...) We are left with the message that in the end it's all things are a matter of point of view.

Yes, Hatter I agree that we are treading dangerously into philosophical discussion area, and I will bring us back, by mentioning that our talented designers are head over heels in love with the look Tim Burton has given the new movie.

Alas our sugar crafting heroes are adding their own twist by adding Blythes to the mix! I have already seen the movie and I'd like to share that it's pretty awesome. The ladies however being in Brazil have to wait until April 16th.

What's going on here?
Alice in Wonderland?
Blythes?
Tim Burton?
Johnny Depp?
Whaaaaaat?
Hold on, party people! Super talented cake designers Lili Glace and Make The Cake have joined forces to create an Alice in Wonderland and Blythe inspired Sugar Art.
Just like Alice falling down the Rabbit Hole into a world of new experiences and sensations, these ladies are recreating Mad Hatter's Tea Party using only Sugar Art, trying out new techniques as they go along.
This blog will document their journey, sharing some Polaroids along the way.
Hope you enjoy reading about this project, I was invited to be their English scribe, and all the way from New York, I'm happy to be a tiny part of such a great endeavor.
Don't forget to check out Lili Glace and Make The Cake, the ladies are crazy talented!

The Project's First Day! February, 3rd 2010

Starting a big project is always a bit of a hurdle, once that's behind everything tends to go smoothly.
The first day went by so fast, I think it was more of a blur to the ladies.
The glue they had was not working with the Styrofoam, it was corroding on contact and the ladies had to rebuild a few things.

They're beginning to realize that it will be a long journey but a fulfilling one full of enriching challenges. The Styrofoam alone is one surprise after another!
Tomorrow: Sugar Paste!!
